Meet Paul Watkins
I’ve spent over three decades building and understanding the skill of discipline and doing hard things.
Not just in an academic sense; Bachelors, Post Grad and Masters, but with hands in the dirt. Sweat, blood and tears left in the snow and on the trails from Antarctica to the Arctic. Building businesses, climbing some of the world’s most iconic mountains and standing on the podium in some of the toughest races on the planet.
Every year I talk to and work with thousands of students, employees, management teams, execs and athletes to move them beyond motivation and resilience and into antifragility.
My Why
I’ve spent my life achieving things that on paper I am unqualified to do - a nerd who has won some of the world's toughest races, a scientist who leveraged an MBA into multiple commercial businesses across fields as diverse as pharmacy, weightlifting, property development and import/retail. You can be a very normal person and achieve abnormal, outsized returns, no Olympic medal or Astronaut qualifications required. And it’s not about luck or motivation.
My Accomplishments
> Scientist with an MBA, post grad psychology and drives a mean forklift > Entrepreneur building businesses in multiple fields; medical, property, retail, import > Major summits and expeditions from Antarctica to the Arctic Circle > Published author, regular podcast guest across the globe > Keynote speaker trusted by National and International Brands > Podium finishes in some of world toughest ultramarathons on multiple continents
Fun facts
‘Jack of all trades, master of none, oft times better than a master of one’ - it helps to bond and communicate with a broad range of audiences when you’ve spent time doing everything from wearing a nail bag on construction sites to operating gyms, trekking across a frozen Arctic Ocean, wielding an ice axe on glacier headwalls or reading patient charts during ward rounds.
How I can help
Develop the skills of discipline, curiosity and momentum
Understand and build antifragility - a competitive advantage in every field
Build bigger maps and write a better story - the power (and danger) of internal narratives
Building mental and behavioural toolkits to do hard things
