Meet Delia McCabe PhD
Delia lost her enthusiasm for ‘the talking cure’ over 25 years ago while completing her master’s in clinical psychology & took the road less traveled, where she’s since immersed herself in the fascinating world of how lifestyle – including nutrition - impacts brain development & function.
Delia’s PhD from Adelaide Medical School provided her with further insights into how stress impacts brain health & her research into female stress has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals.
Delia coined the term 'Modern Burnout' when she saw how many people were experiencing symptoms of chronic stress from overwhelm & uncertainty, after Covid. She's found that many people are battling to cope with increasing complexity & unrelenting change, which is related to modern life & not limited to work environments.
Delia is also a regular featured expert in the media & her presentations & workshops are described as being ‘fascinating, intriguing and inspirational’ & her approach leaves audience members feeling ‘empowered, energized & enthusiastic’ about nurturing their precious brains.
Delia now supports behavior change and cognitive/stress resiliency within organizations & for individuals who want to optimize their brain health, via online courses, tailored workshops & events internationally.
My Why
➡️ ALL change is brain change, so no one can optimise ANY strategies if their brain isn't functioning optimally.
➡️ There's a lot of noise in the online world around brain function, burnout & mental health, & I see too many people buy into 'hope, hype & myth' around these critically important issues, so I love to shine a laser on the facts & how to solve these challenges.
➡️ When people are given evidence-based facts, they make better decisions around what really works, they save money by not falling for slick marketing tricks that sell pseudo-science, & their lives improve because they action the right knowledge ...
➡️ AND the positive benefits are far-ranging & long reaching, which is critically important as we have to live with ourselves 24/7, not just at work!
My Accomplishments
➡️ Ever had to make a big, scary decision? That was me when I completed my clinical psychology masters. I was at a crossroads & took the road less traveled, which led to my adventure into the intersection between psychology, neuroscience & nutrition.
➡️ I wrote two books (available globally in a few languages) so others don't have to spend two decades figuring out the connection between brain health & nutrition.
➡️ I went to five different universities to 'pitch' my PhD before Adelaide Medical School accepted my thesis, because they understand that the era of 'silo-ed' research is coming to an end & they like translational research - research that can immediately benefit society vs. sitting on a shelf gathering dust. [All the other universities wanted me to choose between neuroscience, psychology & nutrition, but they can't be separated, so I'm pleased I stayed committed to my vision of combining them in my PhD.]
➡️ Have worked with a number of medium-sized & large organisations in Australia, done keynotes & training workshops in Europe, China, the US and Canada & presented a Discovery Session for TEDx in Sydney during Covid (2021).
➡️ My unique educational background & experience has given me a wide-ranging perspective about how the brain develops & functions, which allows me to see the intersection between who we are, what we do, how we think, our choices & habits of mind, our lived experience & how we can better support ourselves to thriving.
Fun facts
🧠 I take complex science & make it easily understandable
🐿 I'm a little obsessed with squirrels
🧘♂️ I love yoga because I get three great benefits from each practice session & it helps in my recovery from perfectionism
🍫I love fooling people with food that tastes unhealthy but isn't, using neuroscience 'hacks' - which often include chocolate
🌏 I'm a keen environmentalist & love nature & how it re-calibrates our nervous system, including the brain
👦🏻 👧 Mum to two wonderful, grown up children
How I can help
Teaching leaders & teams to embrace gender brain differences for improved collaboration, creativity, engagement & productivity
Recovery from 'Modern Burnout' & ‘Boomerang Burnout’ to become Re-Energised, Re-Focused & Re-Engaged
Showing leaders & teams how to use neuroscience to optimise engagement, creativity & productivity
Showing leaders how to prevent cognitive overload AND use AI/LLMs optimally, without losing the uniqueness of human creativity
